The Tieback

At 3 a.m., I was awoken by a frantic pounding on my door and a rough voice that ordered, "Everyone away from the windows and get to the hallway! Someone's throwing rocks at our windows!" All 8 children complied without an argument. As we sat, huddled in the darkness of the passageway, the menfolk rushed outside with their choice of protection and hounds at their feet. We waited. And waited. Worry grew. Drowsy heads nodded.

Soon, a reluctant man trudged down the hall, "All clear. I made a mistake." As we roused from our position of "safety", the story came to light. Our guests were sound asleep in bed when the loud CRACK came. Startled for a moment, they were about to slip back into sleep mode when a number of smaller POP POP POP's were heard. A loud crash brought them both to the floor, attempting to crawl for the passageway. It was only after the men ran outside yelling at the unseen tsotsis (thieves) that they began to question the source of the noise. Upon further investigation of the window, it was noted that the curtain tie-back was jammed between the pane of glass and the security bars. Pressure upon a small crack in the glass mounted until the framework could hold it no longer. Hence, all the commotion.

As we climbed back under the covers, some groaned and some of us erupted in laughter, imagining 11 people cowering in a passageway, afraid of a curtain tieback. We will give our "alert-man" credit, as it very well could have been someone throwing rocks, but for now, we're all safe and sound! I can't help but smile. Never a dull moment when you get these 2 families together : D

Simplicity

There is Beauty in Simplicity.

"Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?(For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you."
                                                                                              Matthew 6:30-33

Valentine's Day rolled around and I didn't think much about it till dinner time. Brianna and I put our heads together to create a guy-friendly, yet thematic meal, which proved to be a hit.

- A small smile to brighten my day -
What looks like a simple worm to one's eye, becomes a thing of complicated beauty when you focus in on the moment.

Botswana Bound

Thursday morning: bound to Botswana. Saturday morning: bound by Botswana. Due to an unforeseen issue with our "van" (aka. kombi), what was to be a 3 day stay-over is turning out to be slightly longer. The rainy season is upon us and a recent down pour also flooded the main highway home. God's ways are always best...
The Limpopo River, the border between South Africa, Zimbabwe and Botswana
~ Mrs. Castner's birthday ~
While Dad made the 7 hr round trip to a village in Zimbabwe, we had fun "camping out" at the Castners (missionary friends in Botswana). Plenty of time to catch up with friends we don't see very often and enjoy a very green Botswana... :)

The boys went out mudding one afternoon, with the neighbor guys
Oodles of pool time to keep us cool on the hot days.

Took a walk down to the river with this girl one morning. Coffee, friends, sunshine....bliss.
Friends by the pool. Yes, that is my hand and no, I'm not afraid of frogs (obviously!).
